Hiking

These are the places I've been hiking in the area surrounding Seattle.

Wallace Falls

June 8, 2008

6-7 miles

This was our first big hike in the Seattle area. The hike featured Lower, Middle, and Upper Falls, all beautiful waterfalls. There is both a railroad grade trail and a more challenging route for the first part, with a rough and rocky finish full of switchbacks to get to Upper Falls.

Snow Lake

July 6, 2008

4 miles?

This hike was fun and beautiful, but a little dangerous. Still snowed over in many places, we turned around before reaching the lake because of the slippery packed snow. It was fun to cross over little streams coming from waterfalls, but it would have been better with waterproof shoes.

Mason Lake

July 13, 2008

7 miles

Recommended by the Best Wildflower Hikes Washington book, this was indeed a great flower hike. Ira Spring Memorial Trail splits toward the top of the mountain into the Mason Lake and Bandera Mountain trails. The lake was beautiful and we saw campers there.

Lake Serene

July 19, 2008

8 miles

Probably my favorite hike so far, this trail includes a short hike to a waterfall and a much longer hike up to the most beautiful large lake. Most of the lake was covered by a large sheet of snow. Several smaller waterfalls lined the trail as well as an abundance of foresty goodness.

Mount Rainier National Park - Mount Burroughs Trail

August 16, 2009

5 miles

We went on a beautiful hike near Mount Rainier, with abundant wildflowers, views of Mount Rainier and other nearby peaks, and several lakes. We started at the Sunrise area of the park and took part of the Sourdough Ridge Trail and Mt. Burroughs Trail.
